  • A traveling memoir recorded that Mun Sen Art Studio had oil paintings for sale, every inch of studio wall space were filled with his paintings. These paintings include all manners of local landscapes, lively depictions of the Malay kampung life. Among the smaller work is a large painting of the lion/tiger genre. In addition, there were Chinese style paintings for sale, and also art supplies. Of late, he also began importing European art supplies to fulfil a local market. The art studio was also a frame-making workshop with imported mirror frames from Italy and Shanghai. The business makes a profit of more than $10,000 a year. The studio became a favourite meeting place for fellow artist-friends namely Tay Hooi Keat, Kuo Ju Ping, Khaw Sia, Lee Cheng Yong, Abdullah Ariff, Chuah Thean Teng, Zhong Bai Mu. Became acquainted with the works of European artists through books particularly those of Van Gogh and Gauguin. Gauguin had a great impact on the development of his style.

  • The 1955 Poay Cheng Building School Fund Exhibition Catalogue records that Munsen opened another studio on Leith Street in 1932, this time a photo studio called Shanghai Photo Studio; A newspaper advertisement for the photo studio dates the existence of the studio earlier to 1930. Therefore, information provided after the war appears not to be always reliable. The Yong family lived a comfortable life with the 3 shops that they have. Lam Sek Foong is said to have adopted the habit of drinking brandy after dinner, almost every day, and the family suspects that drinking caused her demise in health.
